This position is responsible for strategy, roadmap, planning and architecture of the Desktop Virtual Environment. This includes researching industry best practices and conducting high-level planning for the Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop and VMWare AppVolumes environment.


  • Strategy, planning and roadmaps, associated with Virtual Desktop Computing and Application Virtualization
  • Research industry guidance, frameworks, best practices and work with industry experts on an on-going basis to determine emerging trends
  • Development implementation plans for best practices and work with Engineers on changes needed to implement best practices
  • Creation of multi-year roadmap for key products Desktop Virtualization technologies
  • Strategic relationships with key vendors
  • Lead efforts in conjunction with Technology Services associated with:
  • Setting and revising standards
  • Creating reference architectures, engineering templates, and pre-engineered solutions
  • Design/engineering of extremely complex solutions
  • Partner with Technology Services and Application teams on the design/architecture of innovative solutions where standards do not yet exist
  • Collaborate with architects in other IT organizations (e.g., Application Services, IT Security, Enterprise Technology Planning)
  • Communicate, drive awareness, and high-level education about technology strategy and associated solutions to Business Partners
  • Lead initial planning efforts and strategy creation for Mergers/Acquisition/Divestiture activities associated with aligned Virtual Technologies
  • Oversee license agreements and participate in budget and license purchase analysis/decisions
  • Perform risk assessment on new and existing products
  • Assess support model changes required due to changing technology and make recommendation for alignment
  • Assess latest version releases and decision implementation timeframe to maintain currency

The technology areas in scope for this position include all Desktop associated Virtual Technologies including, Citrix XenApp, Citrix XenDesktop, and VMWare AppVolumes.


  • Extremely strong technical knowledge and hands-on experience with all aligned technologies, and basic understanding of the underlying technologies owned by other infrastructure services groups including Load Balancers (F5), VMWare vSphere, and Windows OS.
  • Understanding of rules and regulations that govern the use of technology, such as NERC CIP, Sarbanes-Oxley and FCC licensing, as well as internal policies
  • Ability to define and articulate the “big picture” long-term vision for the associated technologies, and develop short term plans to achieve it.
  • Ability to analyze information from multiple sources for complex problem resolution.
  • Ability to design / architect Virtual solutions to maximize availability while minimizing cost.
  • Ability to create and evaluate reference technical architectures and ensure enterprise-wide buy-in, adoption, adherence and implementation
  • Ability to organize tasks and coordinate various employees, vendor / contractors, and customers / partners to meet project goals.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritizing major tasks by overall impact to the company.
  • Ability to communicate and work with all levels of management, vendors, industry experts and other internal and external groups.
  • Ability to create architectural plans and relay information to engineering teams to execute in a clear and concise manner.
  • Ability to effectively to lead committees and teams, train personnel, and create and deliver presentations.


  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science or an Engineering field strongly preferred; four (4) years of relevant technical experience is an acceptable substitute.
  • A minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of service, providing architecture, engineering and/or support for Virtual technologies. When relevant technical experience is substituted for a degree, the minimum experience requirement increases by four (4) years.
