Description

Basic Function : Operate, monitor and maintain propane peak shaving facilities and natural gas peak shaving compressor stations. Work single person rotating shifts encompassing holidays and weekends. Directly responsible for maintaining and ensuring the reliability of the operations of all VNG peak shaving facilities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to analyzing, troubleshooting and repairing all plant equipment and performing all preventive maintenance to ensure the proper calibration of the process equipment and control instrumentation. Train new mechanics as well as other plant personnel. Provide shift coverage for operators during operation and works at other plants when the needs arise. Works with high pressure gas, high temperature machinery, and high electrical voltage and at elevated heights.

Representative Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Maintains and repairs equipment and controls (e.g. security/surveillance systems, large industrial engines/compressors, generators, boilers, gas/air regulators, control valves, cooling fans, and smart transmitters.)

  • Provides proactive preventative maintenance (PM) activities (e.g. major engine/compressor overhauls, annual inspections, relief/control valve testing, and switch calibrations) Must maintain records on computer system to ensure compliance with state, federal and Company policies and regulations.

  • Trouble shoot equipment and system problems (e.g. AC/DC circuits, computer controlled loops, programming, ignitions systems, leak repairs hazard detection systems, high voltage, low voltage, repairs or replace as required.

  • Orders specialty replacement parts: researches options (prices/lead time); performs fabrications and provides technical assistance to contractors during projects.

  • Communicates maintenance techniques and procedures for State and Federal agencies, as well as company audits. (internal engineering, safety, insurance and security)

  • Prioritizes plans/PM’s to meet the needs of all the VNG Peaking facilities

  • Performs inventory control functions and utilizes material management system

  • Responds to emergency call outs and demands of the Production plants and/or Gas Control on 24/7 basis.

  • Maintains availability to work weekends, holidays and overtime/extended hours.

  • Trains other plant personnel on all plant operation duties and processes

  • Controls operations of equipment and processes to peak shave at any of the propane production facilities, and compressor stations, including transferring liquid propane to/from storage tanks for vaporization and transfers to distribution systems

  • Load/unload propane liquid to/from transport trucks

  • Operate and maintain lawn equipment in accordance with company policies and procedures

  • Maintenance of pipelines within the production facilities (e.g. painting, repair, cathodic protection)

Education and Experience:

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED

  • 3-5 years’ experience maintaining and repairing industrial mechanical, electrical, electronic equipment and systems

Preferred:

  • 2-3 years Propane/Compressor station Operator experience

  • 3-5 years experience in power generation and high voltage

  • 3-5 years control system experience

  • Ability to read P&ID’s, CLD’s and SLD’s

  • Must be able to operate a remote plant’s process in addition to home plant’s process

Certifications/Licenses:

Required:

  • Company driving test

  • Fire Fighting Certification

  • Fork Lift certification

  • DOT 192 and NFPA 59A requirements (e.g. confined space entry, fire training, etc)

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

  • Critical operation during extreme ambient temperatures (-10 – 100 degrees)

  • Ability to work safely at elevated heights (top of Propane tanks)

  • Exposure to excessive heat, cold, and noise
