Information Technology Specialist – Plant Barry

Summary of Position Duties

Provide technical expertise and business process support for the Information Technology (IT) systems in the Barry Cluster of plants (Plant Barry and the Theodore and Washington County Cogeneration facilities). Responsible for the maintenance and operation of generating plant communication and data networks including voice, wireless, file servers, applications, desktop software, etc. to provide maximum utilization of resources. Provide insight and direction to changing plant communications needs. This position also acts as an interface between Southern Company Generation, Information Technology resources, and other related Southern Company departments.

Job Requirements

  • College degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related field is preferred.

  • Extensive experience with voice and data network administration, architecture, design and support.

  • Experience with personal computer trouble-shooting and repair.

  • Extensive knowledge of Personal Computers, Corporate Supported Software (e.g. – MS Office Suite) and related equipment.

  • Experience with Microsoft Windows, Apple iOS and Android operating systems.

  • Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.

  • Generating Plant Experience – understanding of traditional plant operations, particularly related to technologies used at a plant is preferred. (Emergency Notification Systems, Security Systems, Fire Alarm Systems, Operator Rounds, CEMS, OIS, etc.)

Job Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate a leadership role in working with plant management, IT and Engineering and Construction Services (E&CS) to effectively implement and support operating company and system-wide technology-related initiatives at the plant(s).

  • Provide administrative and technical direction to the plant(s) communications networks including the maintenance and administration of these systems.

  • Coordinate on-site activities related to installing, upgrading, and maintaining all IT managed technology systems at the plant(s).

  • Act in the role of property owner relating to all information resources inventory, and track, analyze, and communicate the plant(s) information resources charges.

  • Support plant(s) non network computer systems.

  • Responsible for maintaining the Plant(s) Website and other Plant(s) wide communication systems.

  • Support and maintain the plant(s) security and card reader systems.

  • Support technology aspects of Compliance and Cyber Security (Copyright, Record Retention, FCC, NERC CIP Standards, etc.).

  • Provide plant(s) management with support to track, analyze, and communicate the plant(s) IT charges and assist with budget activities.

  • Foster exemplary teamwork with plant personnel, peers at other plants, corporate and IT Field support as well as corporate and plant I&C teams.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work shifts, as necessary for business requirements

  • Work in an industrial environment – will be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment
